Abstract
The Department of Civil Law and Procedure at the Faculty of Law of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is one of the oldest academic and scientific centers in the field of private law in Ukraine, founded in 1862.
The department trains specialists in civil, commercial, private international, family, procedural, and investment law. Its faculty members provide instruction in a range of core and applied legal disciplines and have established research schools in the fields of private international law, intellectual property, medical law, family law, inheritance law, and commercial law. A student civil law club operates actively at the department, and extensive research is conducted within the department’s scientific agenda.
The department’s academics are authors of numerous textbooks, commentaries on legal codes, and monographs, including two editions of the Scientific and Practical Commentary on the Civil Code of Ukraine. Many lecturers combine academic work with legal practice—as attorneys, arbitrators, and notaries—and serve on advisory boards to the Supreme Court and other state institutions. The department maintains strong cooperation with leading European centers for private law, and over 90 of its academic works have been published in international scholarly journals.
