Abstract
The formation and development of the Kharkiv School of Civil Law dates back to the nineteenth century, starting with the establishment of Kharkiv University, where the Department of Civil and Criminal Procedure Rights existed at the Law Faculty since 1804. In 1835, the Department was transformed into the Department of Civil Law, General, Special and Local, and in 1863, the Department was renamed the Department of Civil Law and Procedure.
The revolutionary events of the early twentieth century did not bypass Kharkiv University – it was closed in 1920, but in the same year the Kharkiv Institute of Soviet Construction and Law was established, where the Department of Civil Law resumed its activities. This institute was renamed several times, and today it is the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University.
